Join us this week as we celebrate Halloween and the Pagen Festival of Samhain. We’ve packed this episode to the brim! For fun we start off with some Halloween themed trivia. Sarah tells us about John Douglas White, the necrophile. Hannah shares with us the fascinating story of the Trick or Treat Murder. Meredith takes us on a strange journey and tells us about some common Halloween crimes, the death of W.H. Sallee, Indianapolis’ greatest tragedy, the disappearance of Cindy Song, and the hilarious tale of Candice Kreidel.

Sunday, October 31st, is Halloween and, if you want to get witchy with it, Samhain! Hannah definitely wants to get witchy with it so she offers some suggestions on how to celebrate. In the Northern Hemisphere, Samhain (pronounced “sow-in”) usually falls when harvest has finished and the land is barren and waiting for rebirth. It is considered to be the witches’ New Year and is a good time to make some resolutions - what do you want to leave behind as the old year dies and what positive changes do you want to bring into the new year? This is also a great time to bring out the tarot cards to ask what lies ahead for you in this new year. Samhain is also the time when the veil between the seen and unseen worlds is at its thinnest and some people believe that it is easier to communicate today with those who have died. Take time to honor your ancestors. Lastly, this is an energetic night perfect for charging your crystals. Leave crystals outdoors overnight, especially those that represent endings, banishing, and purification, such as black obsidian, calcite, and malachite.

We have a couple of squares coming up this week. On Tuesday, October 26, Venus in Sagittarius will be square to Neptune in Pisces - do not believe everything you hear today as this polarity could have us believing exaggerations, especially in romance. Then on Saturday, October 30, the Sun in Scorpio will be square to Saturn in Aquarius: this combination could bring pessimism and moodiness, as well as some additional responsibilites.

Then, big move, Mars enters Scorpio on October 30th (Mischief Night) which will give us strength, intuition, and powerful desires. Mars is full of passion and after coming into the sign of Scorpio, it can exploit others with the capability of completing your goals by any means. The people who are under the positive influence of Mars will have a strong body and competitive spirit. Mars Scorpio has an instinct for the energy of others and what’s unseen, like hidden desires. You can get obsessive and hold on to others, in a way that’s almost vampiric.

Food Pairing: Candy Corn or, as it used to be known, Chic’Korn Feed.
